Lectionary For February 26: Genesis 9:8-17; Psalm 25 (VU p. 752); 1 Peter 3:18-22; Mark 1:9-15. At the Annual General Meeting last Sunday, people were invited to respond to three questions in a survey re. preferences for the future of the congregation. Extra copies of the survey (yellow page) are available (at back of sanctuary) for you to fill out, if you missed the opportunity last week. Please return survey on or before February 26, so that Church Council can have your input. This Week at Kitimat First United: Tuesday, 6 pm, Beavers in the church basement. Wednesday, 10 am. Coffee With a Difference at home of Ethel Robinson. Thursday, 6 pm, Scouts in the church basement. Presbytery Prayer Cycle for this Sunday, February 19: Retired Ministers and those Retained on the Roll of Presbytery. Valentine Cake fundraiser –“ The fundraising committee would like to thank all those that supported our Valentine Cake project. A total of 20 cakes were sold at 10.00 each and some people also donated to the fundraiser with the proceeds going toward The Canadian Food Grains Bank where they meet our donation 4:1 so a total of 220.00 was raised. We would also like to thank Overwaitea management and their store for donating all the ingredients to make these cakes.” UPCOMING: Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, is on February 22nd. Next meeting of Church Council: Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00 pm in the lounge. The Ladies Fellowship Breakfast will be held on Saturday, February 25th 9:30-11am. Guest speaker is Tawnia Carriere. If you would like to come, see Donna Schwarz for tickets. Purdy’s Chocolate order forms are available at the back of the church. The order is due by March 16, in order for the chocolate to arrive before Easter. (Easter Sunday is April 8th.) This is a church fund raiser for our congregation. World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. here at First United Church. This year’s service was written by the WICC Committee of Malaysia. Everyone welcome. Spaghetti Dinner Night, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9th downstairs. $12 adults, $6 children 12 and under. There are signup sheets for helpers, at the back of the sanctuary. Birthday Tea in honour of Pearl Lennox, Sunday, March 11 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the church basement, hosted by Pearl’s family. Friends are welcome to help celebrate a “significant decade! No gifts, please.
