Lectionary For March 4: Genesis 17:1–7, 15–16 covenant between Abraham, Sarai and God;

Psalm 22:23–31 You have not hidden your face, O God; Romans 4:13–25 Grace and faith;

Mark 8:31–38 Those who lose their life for the gospel will save it.

 At the Annual General Meeting on February 12, people were invited to respond to three questions in a survey re. preferences for the future of the congregation.  Extra copies of the survey (yellow page) are available at back of sanctuary for you to fill out, if you missed the opportunity previously.  Please return survey by coffee time today, so that Church Council can have your input for its meeting on Tuesday.

 This Week at Kitimat First United:

            Tuesday,  6 pm, Beavers in the church basement.

            Tuesday, 7 pm, Church Council meets in the lounge. 

            Wednesday,  10 am. Coffee With a Difference at home of Ethel Robinson.

            Thursday,  6 pm, Scouts in the church basement.

            Friday, 7 pm, World Day of Prayer Service in our sanctuary.

          Presbytery Prayer Cycle for this Sunday, February 19: Retired Ministers and those Retained on the Roll of Presbytery, e.g. Wally Hargrave, Donna Ziegler.    

 UPCOMING:

 Lenten Study on Our Words of Faith, which is a “remit” on the doctrine section of the Basis of Union of The United Church. We will look at a) 1940 Statement of Faith, b) A New Creed – 1969, 1990, 1994 and c) A Song of Faith 2006.  We will gather  2:00 – 3:30 pm in the lounge, on the 4 Wednesdays of March, starting on March 7th. Purdy’s Chocolate order forms are available at the back of the church.  The order is due by March 11 in order for the chocolate to be delivered on March 23rd.  (Easter Sunday is April 8th.) This is a church fund raiser for our congregation.

World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. here at  First United Church. This year’s service was written by the WICC Committee of Malaysia. Everyone welcome.

 Spaghetti Dinner, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9th. Come and enjoy spaghetti with either tomato/meat sauce or Alfredo sauce, salad, garlic bread and dessert.  Cost is: Adults – $12.00, Children 12 & under – $6.00.  For more info call Fay Ellen @ 250-632-2929.There are signup sheets for helpers.

Birthday Tea in honour of Pearl Lennox, Sunday, March 11 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm in the church basement, hosted by Pearl’s family.  Friends are welcome to help celebrate a “significant decade! No gifts, please.

 Valentine Cake fundraiser –“ The fundraising committee would like to thank all those that supported our Valentine Cake project. A total of 20 cakes were sold at 10.00 each and some people also donated to the fundraiser with the proceeds going toward The Canadian Food Grains Bank where they meet our donation 4:1 so a total of 220.00 was raised. We would also like to thank Overwaitea management and their store for donating all the ingredients to make these cakes.”

 UPCOMING:

Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent, is on February 22nd.

 Next meeting of Church Council: Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00 pm in the lounge.

 The Ladies Fellowship Breakfast will be held on Saturday, February 25th  9:30-11am. Guest speaker is Tawnia Carriere. If you would like to come, see Donna Schwarz for tickets.
